Mid Life Crisis?

What made me wake up one morning and think, “I know, why don’t I walk all the UK’s National Trails?”

Was it that disease that grips all us 40-50 year olds at some time, Mid Life Crisis? Some get rid of it by squeezing their mid-life tummies into a new sports car, through a new hobby like flamenco dancing or snowboarding, some through domestic upheaval in their relationships.

None of these for your author.

For me the glamorous lure of blisters, muddy boots, heavy rucksacks, getting caught in the rain, being cold, wet and hungry in search of the finest scenery and walking exhilaration this small island has to offer.

And that’s the appeal – the get-away-from-it-all sheer beauty of the as yet undiscovered parts of the UK – an island as diverse in its scenery as you could possibly discover.

And one more challenge to add to the adventure – finish all 18 trails before I’m 65. Better get on with it!

Feel free to join me on my journey as I put one foot in front of another with friends, family, or on my own over the next 15 years and 2,800 or so miles.

Let’s go!
